These dogs are known for being laid back in some respects, meaning not aggressive or threatening. They get along with people and other pets usually very well. However, they are very strong and athletic meaning they need room to move! A fenced yard will give them the freedom to move about and run around as they need with a well constructed large dog house for their comfort would be a good environment for them. Chasing and of course retrieving, and if you are anywhere around water they will be in heaven.
Very social dogs and not particularly 'shy' at all but if they hear a noise from something they can't see, they will let you know. Other than that, they will lick and try and play with intruders, so not the best for security.
They can be 'chewers' so proper training or keeping them in a setting where items are all indestructible is a strong suggestion. There doesn't appear to be a limit to what they will try and snack on. If you invest in a house you may want to consider and engineered material in house that will not splinter, crack or grow weak with water or sun exposure. This will lesson the chance they can do any damage. These insulated houses will offer them shade in the summer and protection from the wind and cooler temperatures as well. This idea will keep them safe and a refuge outside from these boisterous beasts may be needed.
