Although the breeds used still remains unknown, it is speculated that the Pinscher, Rottweiler, Beauceron, Weimerainer, German Shorthaired Pointer, Great Dane, old German Shepherd dog, black Greyhound, and Manchester Terrier all contributed to the Doberman's development. After his death in 1984, the breed was named the Dobermann-pinscher in his honor. In German, pinscher means terrier. Herr Goeller became involved in breeding the dogs as well and took up the kennel name Groenland.
The Doberman Pinscher is a relatively 'young' breed of dog. Average Doberman Pinscher males will stand 26 to 28 inches tall and females 24 to 26 inches. Their weight will average 66 to 68 pounds and Doberman Pinschers will live about 13 years. Most Doberman Pinscher coats are black with rust and markings of red.
Some Doberman Pinschers are born all white (albino). Doberman Pinschers shed less than other breeds, thanks to this coat.
